Lawrence General and Holy Family Hospitals have announced their new name and brand – Merrimack Health. With hospitals in Lawrence, Haverhill, and Methuen, and clinical services ranging from primary care and outpatient services to emergency, trauma, and complex specialty care, Merrimack Health will serve the Merrimack Valley as the region’s first health care system.
The rebranding includes the renaming of its hospitals and community physician practices to reflect its new unified, system-wide identity. The three hospital campuses will now be known as Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital, Merrimack Health Haverhill Hospital, and Merrimack Health Methuen Hospital, and its community physician practices will be known as Merrimack Health Community Medical Associates. Together, they offer a community of care serving 13 cities and towns across the region, including in both Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
“One year ago, with the strong support of Governor Healey and Secretary Kate Walsh, Lawrence General and Holy Family Hospitals came together to ensure continued access to high-quality, comprehensive health care in the Merrimack Valley. These hospitals and their dedicated health care professionals tirelessly and admirably cared for patients despite facing significant challenges,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll
. “Now, we celebrate uniting these hospitals as Merrimack Health, together delivering the care that these communities deserve and that makes our state proud."
“Merrimack Health is a health care system rooted in community,” said Diana Richardson, interim president and CEO of Merrimack Health. “Our name and our brand reflect our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the region – ensuring every person has access to trusted, compassionate care close to home.”
“We are deeply proud of this moment,” said Rosemarie Day, chair of the Merrimack Health Board. “Our clinicians and other teams of care providers, our leadership and our board remain fully committed to honoring our mission and legacy of caring for patients in the communities where so many of us live and work, now as Merrimack Health.”
The name Merrimack Health emerged after a comprehensive exploration that included conversations with employees, physicians, community leaders, stakeholders, and elected officials who are deeply invested and take pride in their communities. Universally, they emphasized the importance of preserving comprehensive health care services in the region, with a strong focus on delivering exceptional care locally. They also wanted a brand identity that felt authentic and comfortable for those receiving and delivering care.
The system’s new logo honors the region with a subtle nod to the Merrimack River and the meaningful connections that it represents. The linked characters symbolize Merrimack Health’s momentum forward as a unified system and community of care.
The health system announced its new name with an unveiling of new signage at Merrimack Health Methuen Hospital, which was attended by employees, community leaders, and local and state officials. In the coming weeks and months, patients and the community will see Merrimack Health’s new branding reflected in the system’s signage, patient materials, and more. You can find more at
