At Lawrence Hospital, your family is our family. We know that childbirth is different and intensely personal for every woman, and we understand your need for comfort and desire for privacy. Services for Growing Families will help you through a successful labor and delivery process, as well as helping you learn how to care for your newborn.

Maternity and Labor and Delivery

The Birthing Center at Lawrence Hospital features a maternity ward that is equipped with single rooms for your privacy. Our staff is committed to doing everything we can to make your experience better than you imagined. Given that more than 1,500 babies are delivered at Lawrence Hospital every year, we've had plenty of practice. Additionally, our Birthing Center enjoys the highest quality ratings by birth parents in the Merrimack Valley region.

Special Care Nursery

If your baby needs special attention, you'll be interested to know that our Special Care Nursery is equipped with the resources necessary to provide proper care. The nursery is currently designated as a Level II program by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. That means we offer expert staff and the latest technology to care for babies who need an added level of support, including those born prematurely, twins and triplets, or infants with certain metabolic conditions.

Lupoli Family Pediatric Care Center

The Lupoli Family Pediatric Care center provides comprehensive pediatric care to families in a modern, child-friendly environment. We treat children of all ages — from newborns and toddlers to teenagers and young adults. That said, our staff members understand the children are not small adults and our approach to care is age appropriate.

In appreciation of a recent $250,000 gift to the hospital, made by Salvatore Lupoli, and in acknowledgement of the Lupoli family’s commitment to improving the lives of children, Lawrence Hospital added the Lupoli family name to its Inpatient Pediatric Program. We are proud to welcome and treat all families, including yours.

Yes, in the past two years we have greatly expanded our roster of local services and specialties for the families of the region. Do you have any private pediatric rooms at Lawrence General?

Yes, in the newly renovated Lupoli Family Pediatric Care center, we have five private rooms (with an in room bed for a parent too), available on a first come, first served basis.

Where do I get food?

If your child spends the night at the Hospital, then a parent tray is provided for breakfast free of charge. A discount coupon is given for other meals that you can use in the cafeteria.

Can my child sleep with me?

In the hospital, safety is a priority. Children under the age of 3 sleep in a crib. Other accommodations are needed for the comfort of the child always keeping safety in mind. Newborn infants sleep in size-appropriate cribs. Parents use a portable sleep-chair for sleeping, which is limited in space.

Can my family visit?

Yes. We prefer that only 1 adult stay overnight with the child due to lack of space and ease of staff being able to attend to your sick child. Visitors are discouraged if they are sick, and if the child needs rest to get better. Families must always consider that the hospitalized child may have an illness that requires no extra visitors for a period of time. Visits are best if brief and with limited people.

Will you awaken my child at night?

You must remember that your child is in the hospital overnight so that doctors and nurses can give your child the care he or she needs to get better. While we try not to wake up your child or you sometimes, it cannot be helped. We will always attempt to give care quietly, but we also need to do it in a complete and safe manner.
