What is an ultrasound?
Ultrasound (also called sonography or a sonogram) is a common diagnostic test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body.
A sonographer applies a special gel to the skin and uses a handheld device called a transducer. The sound waves bounce off tissues and create real-time images on a screen.
A radiologist reviews the images and sends a report to your physician.
