What is an MRI?
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a non-invasive diagnostic exam that does not use radiation. Most MRI exams take about 45 minutes.

What MRI technology is available?
Open MRI at Lawrence Hospital
The Panorama High Field Open (HFO) MRI provides a wide, open view designed to help patients feel more comfortable.
Features include Philips Ambient Experience, which allows you to choose music, soft lighting and calming visuals such as beaches or nature scenes.
3T wide-bore MRI at Andover Medical Center
Our 3T wide-bore MRI scanner offers a 70 cm opening with up to 12 inches of headroom.
This technology supports shorter scan times and a more comfortable experience. Patients can choose music during the exam.
The scanner can accommodate patients up to 550 lbs. Body size, scan type and clinical needs may determine eligibility for certain exams.
What should you expect before your MRI?
All patients are pre-screened before their exam to ensure safety and accuracy. Some exams may require an injected contrast agent.
MRI contrast is generally well tolerated. Our technologists provide instructions if any follow-up care is needed.
